Bioinformatics PhD Program
Research Interests

Broad interests: Molecular biology, biogeography, evolution, systematics, phylogenetics

More Specific interests: Evolution of parasitism, bioinformatic and wet lab tool development, Computational modeling of evolution

Biography:

I am a PhD student in the bioinformatics program working in collaboration with the CDC on next-generation microbial genomics to better understand the public health impacts of under-represented diversity in parasitic microbes.  My research focuses on the development of new bioinformatic and molecular laboratory tools for genotyping, outbreak identification, and species identification of the enteric parasites Giardia and Cryptosporidium.  I am interested in applying next-gen sequencing technology to the questions of microbial taxonomy, evolution of parasitism, and cataloguing the diversity of microbial life.
