2023 Bioinformatics Outstanding Student Awards

Each year, the Georgia Tech Bioinformatics Graduate Program recognizes outstanding students at the PhD and MS levels. Each nominee was evaluated based on CV’s, transcripts, descriptions of their accomplishments, and letters of recommendation. An interdisciplinary committee of faculty members selected the winners.  Please join us in congratulating the following two outstanding students!

Bioinformatics Alumni Honored by Georgia Tech

Congratulations to Lava Rishishwar (MSBINF 2012, PhD BINF 2016), and Jasreet Hundal (MSBINF 2009) who were named to the "40 under 40" class of 2023!

Lava was recognized for extracting meaningful and actionable insights from vast genomic datasets. Collaborating with federal and state government partners, he has contributed to outbreak investigations, developed infrastructure for laboratory preparedness, and pioneered scalable computational tools for the future. Through mentoring and training, he nurtures the next generation of scientists.

Bioinformatics Career Mentoring Event

Each fall, the Bioinformatics graduate hosts a Career Mentoring event, primarily for the MS program students.  First year students learn about preparing for their Internship search, and continuing students learn about job search strategies for full-time positions.

A group of continuing MS Bioinformatics students lead an internship panel, while a group of alumni serve on an alumni panel.  Following the panels, alumni host table topics for the students, choosing a career topic to highlight.
