Research Interests

My research cuts across the interface of chemistry and biology. I use the tools of organic and computational chemistries, cell biology and molecular biology to design, synthesize and validate targeted epigenetic modifying agents and nucleic acid-binding small molecules. Specifically, my lab investigates various aspects of the biological consequences of histone deacetylase (HDAC) and histone lysine demethylase (KDM) inhibition with emphasis on the development of bio-inspired approaches to achieve isoform selectivity and targeted delivery of HDAC and KDM inhibitors. Work from my lab has furnished series of HDAC and KDM inhibitors with varying degrees of isoform and/or subfamily selectivity; cell and tissue selective accumulation.
