Professional Master's Admission

Admission for the Professional MS Bioinformatics Program

  • In light of an increased demand for admission to our MS Bioinformatics program, we are implementing an opportunity for students to be admitted early.  Students whose applications are complete by December 1 will be considered for early admission, which will be extended to exceptionally strong applicants.  An early admission decision by the faculty committee does not entail any additional commitment on the applicant’s part.
  • The application deadline is March 1 each year for fall semester admission.  Early decisions will be evaluated after December 1.
  • To apply, use the Admissions office online form. Choose Bioinformatics (Biology) as your major. You can only apply for the MS program through Biological Sciences.
  • Applicants may be admitted to the program with four-year undergraduate degrees in science, mathematics, computing or engineering. Applicants with 3-year undergraduate degrees should complete a 2-year MS program to be eligible for graduate admission at Georgia Tech.
  • GRE scores are required for fall 2025.  In a typical year, applicants are expected to have taken the general GRE and should have a verbal score in the 60% rank or better (verbal score > 154) and a quantitative score in the 70% rank or better (quantitative score > 163).  The analytical writing score is expected to be 4.0 or better.
  • GPAs have ranged between 3.3 and 4.0.
  • Admission to the program will be based on recommendation made by a faculty committee.
  • MS students are eligible to apply for Computational Biology Faculty GRA awards after their first semester of study.  These are awarded competitively and include a tuition waiver and stipend.
  • The School of Biological Sciences hosts and administers the Professional Master of Science program in Bioinformatics.
