A physician from Recife, northeastern Brazil, I was drawn to medicine by the desire to help patients improve their quality of life. During medical school, my fascination with genomic innovations, particularly the groundbreaking CRISPR trials in 2019, led me to pursue a Medical Genetics Residency at Campinas University. Throughout my residency, I attended and researched with various medical diagnosis focusing in their genetic aspects, such as skeletal dysplasias, retinitis pigmentosa, and Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. Driven by questions about hereditary disease risks across populations and the future of genomic medicine, I joined the Lachance Lab at Georgia Tech, where I focus on understanding the genetic architecture of polygenic diseases. Currently, I combine my clinical genetics expertise with bioinformatics to help advance precision medicine for diverse populations.
